Nolan outlining third Batman
Christopher Nolan has revealed that he's working on some rough outlines for a third Batman film, trying to bring together a trilogy. However there's bad news in there too, the news that although he's been working on ideas, nothing worthy of a film has made it forward yet.
Historically there seems to be a bit of a dark cloud hanging over the third film in a franchise, and perhaps there's some extra pressure in trying to buck the trend, either way the wait might be a lengthy one for the third Nolan Batman film.
He's been jotting down ideas and writing outlines for a third film, but so far none of them have been good enough that he would want to commit them to film.
Thankfully it looks as though he'll be fighting that third film downward trend, although he has set himself a big task following on from The Dark Knight (Filmstalker review). Speaking about the history of the third in trilogies he says:
“I don't know why they're hard to do," Nolan says. "Maybe there's so much expectation to them. But I wouldn't want to do one if it weren't going to be as good as the first or second. That's not respectful to the fans...The worst thing you could do now that you've gotten the plane back in the air is mess up the landing...”
I never thought for a minute that the Christopher Nolan would mess up on the third film after producing two spectacular Batman's. Can you honestly see them dropping the ball?
The only way I can see it being messed up is if the studio push him too hard and force him into making the third film before he's ready, something that I don't think he would accept anyway.
It does sound as though he's going for that third film though, so we'll just have to sit back and see what idea comes out. The more interesting thought is what's going to happen after the third? All change again?
