Golden Globe Winners 2009
I have to admit, and it's been very obvious from the site this year, I've been disinterested in the awards announcements. I've been waiting to write up all the various critics nominations and winners in one post and the Golden Globes snuck up on me, and I'm surprisingly not that bothered, even with seeing the winners.
Partly it's because writing about the awards the last few years has produced so little excitement from the readers, and partly because there's been just so much hype about one award category that I was growing tired of it all.
However, here are the Golden Globe winners for 2009, with a couple of surprises and a couple that aren't, including one default win.
Yes you can have guessed from that comment that Heath Ledger was awarded, and I say that very carefully, the Best Supporting Actor for The Dark Knight (Filmstalker review). To be fair looking at his fellow nominees you wouldn't be thinking that there are tons of deserving winners, but then I still don't believe that his acting was everything that it was hyped up to be, score, direction and writing played a stronger than usual part in that role.
As for other awards, well I am surprised and delighted to see Danny Boyle and Slumdog Millionaire (Filmstalker review) do so well, although I am surprised he took the Best Director himself, after all he did share the directors credit.
Well done to Kate Winslet for Best Actress in Revolutionary Road and Best Supporting Actress in The Reader, which really is a surprise as I thought it would be one or the other, not both. Colin Farrell deserves a mention for Best Actor in a comedy for In Bruges, and a surprising but from all accounts well deserved win for Mickey Rourke for Best Actor in The Wrestler.
Here are the full awards from the Golden Globes site, I'm not going to mention the television awards as I think that it's ridiculous that The Shield, Battlestar Galactica or even NCIS aren't even mentioned on there!
