Proyas talks Dracula Year Zero and The Tripods
Alex Proyas has been talking about two of his upcoming films, Dracula Year Zero and The Tripods. While we're all interesting in what he has to say about his Dracula project, for me it's The Tripods big screen debut that has me excited. Just what is happening with it?
The Tripods comes from the John Christopher series of novels (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com) which was also adapted into a BBC television series that did garner a strong audience, I remember watching it. Now Proyas has been talking about making it into a film for some time.
Well the bad news is that there's not a lot to tell us, and for The Tripods Alex Proyas does say that he can't actually tell us anything other than he's right in the middle of the budgeting process. However the film has been written by himself and Stuart Hazeldine which is a big step.
So onto Dracula Year Zero, although I'd rather talk more about The Tripods, but there's not much to say until they get the budgeting in place.
Talking over at Coming Soon Alex Proyas says that the film is moving on, but that he's not a fan of remakes or sequels, but there was a particular reason he got excited about this one, and he couldn't have picked a more sequeled, remade story.
“I read a particular script that puts the whole legend on its head in every conceivable way and comes out with something that is both a kind of an ode to Bram Stoker's original Dracula, in that it's kind of a prequel to that, but it also redefines the character to such an extent that I found it quite exciting, so that is very much a kind of reinvention of that character and it's why I got excited about it.”
Well that's interesting to hear, so we're not looking at a straight story of how he became the legendary scary character we know and love to see today, however I wouldn't have really expected anything else from Proyas.
Still, I'm more excited about The Tripods than his Dracula story!
