Spike Lee on Inside Man 2 plot and cast
Last we heard on Inside Man 2, a new script was being worked on. And some of us were wondering what the point was of a sequel.
Now Spike Lee has given an update. That script is coming along nicely he says, and pretty much everyone will come back. The plot has changed a bit though.
Terry George has taken over script duties from Russell Gewirtz, who wrote the original script for Inside Man. But Spike Lee says that the idea of Clive Owen's gang being involved in a diamond heist, is not the case anymore. He's not for giving anymore details though at the minute.
What he did say to MTV, through /Film, was that the film will still be set in New York. And that the original cast will be back. That's Clive Owen, Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster and Chiwetel Ejiofor. And if the script is done, he might start filming sooner than we thought:
I got an email from Terry George yesterday. He just finished—he’s at the end of the first act...If the script is up to snuff, we’ll be shooting it. Here’s the thing: if everything lines up—people’s schedules are open, [we’ll begin in] late summer, early fall.
So it's full steam ahead for the sequel. But as much as I liked the first one, I'm not overly excited about the second. Hopefully there will be more screentime for Jodie Foster, one of my favourite actors. And she plays a pretty shady character really well. But other than that, I can't think of a story that won't end up as a lesser copy of the original. Any ideas on how Inside Man 2 can break the curse of the sequel?
