Stalked: DiCaprio's Reaper, Caruso's Jack and the Beanstalk, Sorcerer's Apprentice casting, New Moon casting, Beckinsale in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

A bunch of stories that don't make huge writing points but that you'd probably like to know and perhaps have a wee discussion about.

Leonardo DiCaprio is to star in a film called Beat the Reaper...

D.J. Caruso is set to direct Jack the Giant Killer...

The Sorcerer's Apprentice has gained Teresa Palmer...

Taylor Lautner has signed for the Twilight sequel New Moon...

Kate Beckinsale is in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans...

Leonardo DiCaprio is to star in a film called Beat the Reaper which is adapted from the the novel by Josh Bazell (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com) which tells the story of a Manhattan ER doctor who is recognised by a mobster for his former exploits. You see he was a hitman who went into the witness protection program after testifying against some weighty clients. Sounds an interesting idea, and there are a few other "recognised after witness protection program" stories heading to possible development just now. The story comes from Variety through Coming Soon.

D.J. Caruso is set to direct Jack the Giant Killer, which sounds ever so much like Jack and the Beanstalk minus the Beanstalk part. The film, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is a story from the scriptwriter Mark Bomback which tells of the story of a princess who is kidnapped, an event that threatens the peace formed between humans and giants. A young farmer called Jack is given the opportunity to lead a group of men into the giants kingdom to rescue her. Bigger and better is how the project is described, with a bigger budget and more special effects. Caruso has come a long way from The Shield.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice has gained Teresa Palmer to add to the cast of Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel who play the the Sorcerer and the Sorcerer's Apprentice respectively. Palmer will be playing the love interest of the Apprentice. Jon Turteltaub is directing. Disney really are going and pulling in their back catalogue to try and find a new hit. The story comes from he Hollywood Reporter

Oh all you Twilfs and Tweens can rest easy as Taylor Lautner has signed for the Twilight sequel New Moon. The Hollywood Reporter tells us that he's coming back in the second as his character develops a relationship with Bella, the female lead. Previous reports had the actor leaving the role because he wasn't bulky enough, but Chris Weitz, the new director, wanted him to keep the role.

Kate Beckinsale is in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans after all according to ShockTillYouDrop who had a chance to talk with "a member" of the crew from the film after the director Patrick Tatopoulos previewed a few scenes to the media. They revealed that the third film will be bookended with scenes with Beckinsale playing Selena from the original Underworld film.
