Stalked: Mendes on The Preacher, Janssen replaces Headey

Sam Mendes has been talking about the long quiet comic book adaptation Preacher...
The gorgeous Famke Janssen is replacing the equally beguiling Lena Headey on Black Death, a film about brothers who are hunting down a necromancer during the first outbreak of the bubonic plague in Britain. Sean Bean and Rupert Friend already star in the film to be directed by Christopher Smith, he of Creep and Severance fame.
The story from ShockTillYouDrop through JoBlo tells us of the replacement but little else. However this might be related to the fact that Headey recently announced that she's going to take on the big task of directing her first film in which she will also star alongside Jason Flemyng and Charlotte Rampling in a story about an organised vigilante gang who lose sight of their original goals and revel in their power.
That might well explain the dropping out in order to tackle this project which will undoubtedly require a lot of her time, and to be fair Black Death sounds rather odd for her.
Sam Mendes has been talking about the long quiet comic book adaptation Preacher to MTV, and he's been talking positively. Far from being off the project and the film officially dead, it seems that it's still being worked on and Mendes is still considering it.
“I think it’s absolutely brilliant...It’s a gripping story, fantastic characters, great visual landscape. It mixes supernatural and real worlds brilliantly… it’s funny, and it’s absolutely, completely blasphemous, possibly even sacrilegious I would say. Which might be a dangerous thing to take on.”
That said he's still considering it and says he's hanging out for a script to review before he decides if he will take the leap or not. If he finally does we might actually see the film being made, and if so who would you see as the Preacher?
