Cassel, Bloom, Kurylenko in The Cross

VincentCassel.jpgThe Cross is being billed as a science fiction escape story, but reading the blurb it feels like a very small and focussed story, and the blurb alone is enough to get me interested, however consider the cast list that we're getting word of - Vincent Cassel, Orlando Bloom and Olga Kurylenko. I'm definitely watching out for this one now.

The film is being directed by Andrew Niccol who also directed Lord of War (Filmstalker review), and while you might not have liked the film (I didn't) the visuals and action were brought to the screen well.

According to Variety the film is carrying a US $24 million budget and will use Australia to set the location in the border crossing somewhere in a future world. The story will see Orlando Bloom playing a man who has to cross this border, a border we know nothing about but has never been crossed before. In his way is Vincent Cassel as a guard who will do anything to stop him crossing.

Sadly the article just says that Olga Kurylenko will play the female lead, well we would have guessed that. I would suspect she will be the partner of Bloom's and they're trying to cross together, who knows, perhaps it's a genuine secret.

That's about all we know for now, but you have to think that it sounds a little interesting, and Andrew Niccol doesn't just have Lord of War to answer for him, he has Gattaca and S1m0ne...ah, okay...well he wrote The Truman Show, but then he co-wrote The Terminal. Okay well he's writing and directing Dali & I: The Surreal Story starring Al Pacino. Okay that last one saves it.

Seriously though he is a proven writer and director, and if he has his Lord of War eye on then we could be seeing something rather interesting, especially with a personal favourite actor of mine Vincent Cassel in there, and Olga Kurylenko who is most definitely rising up my list of strong actresses.
