Madonna to play Wallis Simpson ?
Madonna's previous comments that she was through with acting may have been a bit premature.
Even as a fan I was a bit relieved back then, but now it seems she has her heart set on playing Wallis Simpson.
In 2006, Madonna threw in the towel, and her toys out of the pram. She'd had enough of people talking her films down before they really had a chance.
I hate to admit it, but I've decided to give that up. How can any film survive if everyone says it's going to be a flop from the very day the project is even conceived? It's already dead in the water.
Since then she's directed her own film, with mixed reviews. But it looks like she has found a project that has her passionate enough to think about returning to acting. The Guardian say she wants to play Wallis Simpson.
A brief bit of research later, and I can see why. Simpson's involvement with Prince Edward led to his abdication from the throne in 1936. After causing a fairly large royal scandal, the couple were also suspected of being Nazi sympathisers. The two even spent time as personal guests of Adolf Hitler in the mid 1930s.
Apparently Madonna was pushing ahead with her plans to make the film. But recent personal issues have slowed things down a bit. The ever popular inside source thinks she'll be back on it soon though:
She is as passionate about it as she was about playing Eva Peron in Evita. Madonna said she is fascinated about this American commoner who refused to conform or offer explanations for her tangled love life. It was all systems go until the divorce [from Ritchie], when everything was put on the back-burner. When things in her life settle down this year, she's keen to get things going again.
Sounds like it could be one of those roles that suit her, much like Evita did. Is she right though, will her involvement immediately lead us to think that it's doomed?
