Orange BAFTA Rising Star: Michael Fassbender
Michael Fassbender has a relatively short career, but even early on there's some big surprises in terms of project titles that he's starred in. Look to current days and you can see that there's a huge potential for his career to explode, and it looks like he's just on the cusp of that happening.
The Orange British Academy Film Awards, aka the BAFTA's, have an award where the public can vote for the winner, nand this year Filmstalker is looking through the nominees and the next one we're looking at is Michael Fassbender. It's all part of the lead up for Filmstalker's first BAFTA visit, and hopefully not the last.
Yes, Filmstalker is heading to the BAFTA's to live blog from the red carpet and report back from the event itself after the show. In the meantime we're looking at some of the nominees for the Orange Rising Star Awards, and up now is Michael Fassbender.
Michael Fassbender was born in 1977, the young bloke, and after appearing in three episodes of a British television drama series called Hearts and Bones, he stepped up to star in Band of Brothers for seven episodes, already off to a huge start.
He played Stelios in 300 (Filmstalker review), closely followed by Angel (review to come). His next film role came in Creek starring Dominic Purcell, and then came another huge leap for the actor, and a role that really does mark the stepping up of his career.
In 2008 Fassbender played Bobby Sands, the lead role in Hunger, the story of the imprisoned IRA hunger striker. That was followed closely by the British horror Eden Lake and a quick spell on a British television drama called The Devil's Whore.
Now though the big roles continue. First up on his currently filming list are Inglourious Basterds, yes he has a role in Quentin Tarantino's ensemble cast World War II film, a smaller film called Fish Tank, and then he's playing Heathcliff in a film version of Wuthering Heights alongside Abbie Cornish. There's also a rumour of him playing George Carter in the film version of The Sweeney, but for now that's still just that, rumour.
It seems that Michael Fassbender has been picking some great roles from the beginning of his career, but it's since his appearance in 300 that his career has started to really get him noticed, and his leading roles in Hunger and Eden Lake have undoubtedly led to his upcoming performance in Inglourious Basterds, and there's plenty to come.
Michael Fassbender is one of the nominees for the Orange Rising Star Award at this year's BAFTA's, and you can vote for him in one of two ways.
