Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter trailer online

TalesoftheBlackFreighter.jpgThe trailer for Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter has arrived online, and if you can look past the obvious multi-dipping that's going to happen with Watchmen and this additional animated film, then you'll see that it's going to be a superb companion piece.

The animated film comes from a comic book that is read by a character within the Watchmen story which mirrors the plight of some of the lead characters of the main story, and to begin with it will be receiving its own DVD and Blu-ray release, ultimately being packaged with the Watchmen DVD and Blu-ray.

The trailer looks very similar to the actual comic, just with much more depth and, of course, it's fully animated. Oh yes, one more addition, the voice of Gerard Butler. Scottish seaman he may be, but that's not a bad thing.

Now, the trailer was an exclusive for the M-”there's no audience outside of the U.S.”-TV, the site that doesn't share its trailers with anyone outside America because of their own inane copyright laws – don't they understand the concept of global?

I found it there through JoBlo, but I've picked on the TrailerAddict copy because they're letting everyone see it.

You can head to MTV to see the 720p version if you'd like, and once you select that version (bottom right of the player) you can watch it wherever you're located – go figure that one out if you can! - of course the adverts still play here.

I think the trailer for Tales of the Black Freighter looks great, and you do get pulled in by it, but I think if you hadn't the faintest idea about the plot or you'd seen the story to begin with then you might find yourself wondering why when watching the trailer.

Oh, and isn't that the music from 300 (Filmstalker review)?

The story, for those of you who want to know, is about a seaman whose ship is attacked by the Black Freighter, a pirate ship, and he is left as the sole survivor lost at sea without food, water, or chance of survival.

He does anything he can to stay alive, even at times the unthinkable, and all the while plotting his revenge against the people who left him in this situation, those from the Black Freighter.
