Yogi Bear the 3D film
Eric Brevig has been set to direct a film about Yogi Bear, and guess what it's going to be in glorious 3D, so expect goofs galore flying at the screen. For some reason the studios are continuing to push this gimmick from way back.
What is a complete killer about the story is the comment that the film is expected to follow the same lines as the Alvin and the Chipmunks film which was described as "a hit for Fox". Oh dear, and yet the writers involved are two rather interesting names.
Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia are writers on a number of bigger television shows as well as the upcoming Tooth Fairy family film sporting a big cast. They are also the two men set to write up the script for a big screen outing of the talking comedy bear and his sidekick Boo-Boo, both of whom seem to be going for a lot of picnics in Yellowstone Park and constantly trying to outsmart the local park rangers, who seem quite at home with talking bears.
The film will seem like Alvin and the Chipmunks because it will be CGI for the creatures and live-action for the actors unlucky enough to sign up to the project and take the cash.
Eric Brevig is a visual effects supervisor who has just completed directing Journey to the Center of the Earth, so directing this film will bend to his expertise, he'll know much more about throwing things at the screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter story he's replacing one of the directors of Surf's Up, Ash Brannon, who was previously attached to lead the film.
I honestly can't see anything good coming out of this film. Do you genuinely want to see a film version of the cartoon Yogi Bear, and what could it possibly give us that Alivin's drug induced chipmunks couldn't? Cheap fare for the kiddies market.
