Jon Favreau to direct The Avengers?
Jon Favreau was many people's choice to direct The Avengers. But the timing of the Iron Man sequel seemed to put an end to the chances of that happening.
But now that Marvel have moved the released date for The Avengers, it looks like Jon Favreau could be the man for the job.
Iron Man 2 was given the rather daunting release date of May next year, which didn't leave much down time after the first. And when the release date of The Avengers was set for the following year, it looked like Jon Favreau wouldn't be directing that one. But the other day Marvel moved the release dates of a few of their films, including The Avengers. It's now due out on May 4th 2012.
Now one of those inside sources has told AICN, that one of the reasons was to allow Favreau the opportunity to direct the film.
Avengers is delayed a year because of financing issues but also because the plan is for Favreau to helm it. Everybody here loves the guy and he wants to do it, but it would have been impossible for him to do before the date change given his Iron Man 2 commitments. Also partly the reason why he agreed to do the Stark sequel on such an accelerated schedule was so he could get given first dibs on this. It would still be a punishing schedule for him, so he's not firmly confirmed yet, but he is certainly the presumptive director at this point.
So there we go, he might get his hands on it after all. Fans of Iron Man certainly seemed pleased with what he did there. And Marvel seem to hold him in high esteem. The inside source also kind of confirmed rumours we brought you a few days ago. Alexander Skarsgård is Kenneth Branagh's favourite to play Thor, and Josh Hartnett is also up for the part of his brother Loki. They may also try and get his father Stellan Skarsgård to play Odin.
Would you be happy to see Jon Favreau direct The Avengers? Or would you rather wait and see, what some of the other directors come up with in the individual films?
