Russell turned down The Expendables
I never thought that Kurt Russell would turn down the chance to star in The Expendables along with Sylvester Stallone and his pretty strong ensemble cast, but it seems that he has, and one of the reasons was the fact that it was an ensemble cast.
It does seem strange that Kurt Russell would turn down a chance to star in the film, but according to Stallone he has, and quite forcibly too.
“I know that many people on the site have asked for Kurt Russell. I asked for him too.
Actually, I was taken aback when asked to put the request in a letter and send it to his agent. Subsequently, I was called back by the agent several days later after refusing to send a letter and he said Kurt Russell is not interested in 'ensemble acting' at this time. So, people, I came, I saw, I failed”
Now that does surprise me, considering Russell has nothing on his slate and his last strong roles were Vanilla Sky and Soldier and they were back in 2001 and 1998 respectively, you'd think he'd be interested in a role alongside Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Eric Roberts, Dolph Lundgren (hopefully) and perhaps even Arnold Schwarzenegger, not to mention Sylvester Stallone himself.
I just don't get it, why would Russell not want to appear in The Expendables?
Well if the story from WENN through IMDB is true, and we know how unreliable some of these stories can be, then that's just what happened. Stallone didn't even get to talk to Russell and he wasn't even interested.
I'd say that's a bad move on Russell's part and he's missing out on an excellent opportunity, not just that he's depriving the audience from a another great addition to the cast list.
