Update: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen plot spoiler?

TransformersRevengeoftheFallen.jpgI'm not so sure that this really is a big plot spoiler for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, although spoiler it is and almost certainly not one of Michael Bay's faked stories to the press.

It could reveal something major about the film, or it could reveal a little surprise ending, it's very unclear just how much it's going to play in the main film, but we can guess none the less.

Now I've delayed you enough you should be certain that you want to continue, for this could be a big reveal, or as little as a post-credits finale for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Whichever, this may spoil this, or the next, Transformers film for you, so look away now if you don't want to know.

The reveal comes from an actor who was involved in the first film and has now revealed his involvement in the second. Hugo Weaving has been talking about lending his voice to the film once again, and what does that mean? Megatron is back.

“I've already done it... He's over in LA and we were working on the video split sort of thing and I had this strange conversation where he seemed to imply it was all a big secret. So there you go - I've given you the secret scoop... I think in the last one, doesn't Optimus Prime pick up a little bit of, a shard of the cube, or the thing that's left, and he takes it with him. Maybe there's something there... but I don't know.”

Those were the words of Hugo Weaving while talking to the Australian paper AdelaideNow through Seibertron and JoBlo, directly contradicting those of Michael Bay's recently when he denied that Megatron was in the film.

Oh who to believe, this could be another ruse from Michael Bay to throw us all of the scent, although I have some other ideas. Here are your options for Megatron and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen:

1. Weaving is lying and it's more Bay disinformation. Like Pearl Harbour being a true story.

2. Megatron is in the film and appears post credits or just before the closing credits to bring him back to life in time to kick off a third Transformers film.

3. Megatron is in the film and is brought back to life to join forces with Optimus Prime and the Autobots to fight the Fallen, the new Transformer and his army brought back from space.

I actually kind of like the third option, it has quite a twist to it. The second option is pretty much standard Hollywood fare so don't rule that out, and with Bay lying about everything in the film, who knows it could still be the first one.

Where do you think the truth lies?

Update: 06/03/2009

Michael Bay has confirmed the story on his site Shoot For The Edit through Latino Review.

"Okay cat is out of the bag. Megatron is back ---- but you will only get to see him from the long lost past. We go way back in time as this movie explains the mythology of the Primes. He is not a tank like everyone suggests, but an alien vehicle. But sadly he does not has much screen time."

Is he lying again though? Well the back story of Fallen involves Megatron so that could well be true, but what of a third in the series? Don't tell me they aren't going to leave an opening for another one? That would be insane in a Hollywood franchise like this, and the most appropriate way to do that? With Megatron. If they do a third film without him then it would seem a strange place to leave the franchise.

I still like the idea of the Autobots having to team up with the Decepticons to fight Fallen and his army and the only way to defeat him is to resurrect Megatron with a piece of Optimus Prime. It has a kind of poetic feel to it as well.
