Ayer to direct Last Man

Y-TheLastMan.jpgLet's try that again. Apologies to all I totally messed up that story. The actual story is that David Ayer is about to direct a science fiction film called Last Man.

Judging from his previous films it's going to be dark and rather brutal at times. Consider Training Day, Dark Blue, Street Kings or Harsh Times.

However saying that David Ayer has also been responsible for S.W.A.T., The Fast and the Furious, and U-571. Of course a science fiction film is a complete change of direction from the strong films he's produced, does it mean he's heading more towards the territory of the less than realistic films above? After all his strength has been in a very similar genre to date.

According to Variety through Coming Soon the story is about...

"...a hardened captain assigned to protect an outpost on a distant planet must lead a group of young, inexperienced American soldiers in battle against an alien race."

Thanks Live For Films for sorting me out on that one!

First up Ayer has to finish the fact based film about a salvage crew that tries to bring back to life a capsized Japanese cargo ship that sank while transporting cars to America, then he's onto his futuristic film Last Man - not Y: The Last Man...or I should be asking Y: This Man?!

I think you may have got the Last Man thing mixed up fella. Variety says that this Last Man will be about "a hardened captain assigned to protect an outpost on a distant planet must lead a group of young, inexperienced American soldiers in battle against an alien race."

Bloody hell, not half. That's ridiculously wrong! Man, don't write tired...Must be because I'm getting old, over three now!

Cheers for catching that, now do I look like a fool. Okay, I'm away to hack that story apart! It's a bit of a non-event now.

No worries fella. Glad I could help out.

Y: The Last Man would have been a lot more interesting though wouldn't it.

Definitely don't write tired my friend. :)

Heh, yeah, I really do take care in not making many mistakes and not getting caught up in the rumour mill, but this really made up for the past three years!

Thanks for being a gent about it and pointing it out with civility, a lot of others would have tried to put the boot in and take advantage.

I think it would have been a great choice, we'd have ended up with a pretty dark film.

Did you mention SWAT Richard? Where's Louise? :P
