Ayer to direct Last Man
Let's try that again. Apologies to all I totally messed up that story. The actual story is that David Ayer is about to direct a science fiction film called Last Man.
Judging from his previous films it's going to be dark and rather brutal at times. Consider Training Day, Dark Blue, Street Kings or Harsh Times.
However saying that David Ayer has also been responsible for S.W.A.T., The Fast and the Furious, and U-571. Of course a science fiction film is a complete change of direction from the strong films he's produced, does it mean he's heading more towards the territory of the less than realistic films above? After all his strength has been in a very similar genre to date.
According to Variety through Coming Soon the story is about...
"...a hardened captain assigned to protect an outpost on a distant planet must lead a group of young, inexperienced American soldiers in battle against an alien race."
Thanks Live For Films for sorting me out on that one!
First up Ayer has to finish the fact based film about a salvage crew that tries to bring back to life a capsized Japanese cargo ship that sank while transporting cars to America, then he's onto his futuristic film Last Man - not Y: The Last Man...or I should be asking Y: This Man?!
