Day of the Triffids remake gains cast
The cast for the new Day of the Triffids film is looking rather strong with a line up of Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, Eddie Izzard and Jason Priestley just announced.
This isn't going to be a feature film version though, despite that fascinating line up. This is going to be a BBC HD mini-series.
Now I know I don't normally write about mini-series on Filmstalker, but this cast looks promising and does come from a strong film background. That, plus the writer is Patrick Harbinson who has written and produced ER, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Wire in the Blood, Dark Angel and Millenium.
Now tell me you aren't interested in that news from HDTV UK? I am, even if I don't think the film needs another remake it does promise something strong. The head of drama for BBC Wales agrees as Julie Gardener says:
“The incredible cast lined-up for The Day Of The Triffids is testament to the quality of Patrick Harbinson's script. We hope audiences, both old and new, will be captivated by this modern take of John Wyndham's classic best-selling novel.”
There's nothing there about what the layout of the mini-series could be but it does suggest that it's going to be more than just a UK seen series.
I have to be surprised that the Richardson's are appearing, but then they do seem to love their work in front of the camera. Then there's Brian Cox, a superb actor, and another great Scot Dougray Scott. Eddie Izzard is a very good actor, and the name that most surprises me after that list is that of Jason Priestly.
We'll have to wait and see what happens with the television version of The Day of the Triffids, but looking at that line up I do wish that it was going to be heading for the big screen.
