Ghostbusters on Blu-ray

Ghostbusters-BRD.jpgGhostbusters is finally coming to Blu-ray, in time for the marketing run on all the new Ghostbusters material that's about to hit too. However the really good news is that this transfer looks to have had some love and attention paid to it rather than just throwing an old film onto the new format, as is oft done with lesser releases from pre-high definition.

The Blu-ray is being released on the fifteenth of June in time to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the film, twenty five years?! Would you believe it? Plus it's being packed with extra features and that high definition format.

Who would have thought back then that Ghostbusters would become so big? The comedy from Ivan Reitman, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis was paired back from the original huge concept and became a cult. Starring the nigh on perfect line-up of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ivan Reitman, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Annie Potts, and Rick Moranis, the film followed a trio of scientists (well two definitely were) who were out to try and discover if ghosts really exist. On their way they start to realise that ghost sitings are on the increase and that Manhattan is at serious risk unless someone does something. Ghostbusters.

Now finally we'll get to see it on Blu-ray, and the disc is promising a lot. There's no word on what the audio and video formats will be, but the official blurb says "digitally mastered" and so I'd except original size, digitised and reworked for Blu-ray and possibly given a new HD audio track in Dolby Digital and DTS.

Along with that we're going to see:

Slimer Mode: Picture-in-Picture Graphical Viewing Experience with an examination of the spook-hunters' firehouse headquarters, an in-depth exploration of the creatures in the Ghostbusters mythology, behind-the-scenes discussions of making the movie, new cast, crew and special effects artists interviews and much more!
Featurette: Ecto-1: Resurrecting the Classic Car
Ghostbusters Garage: Ecto-1 Gallery
Collectible 32 Page Scrapbook
Filmmakers' Commentary with Ivan Reitman, Harold Ramis and Joe Medjuck
Featurette: 1984 - The Making of Ghostbusters - Interviews with the cast and crew
Featurette: Interviews with Cast and Crew
Featurette: SFX Team - Includes Before and After Multi-Angle Explorations
Scene Cemetery - 10 Deleted Scenes
Storyboard Comparisons

Currently the UK price is being set at £19.99, however Amazon.co.uk are currently offering it for £13.68 in the UK and $19.99 on Amazon.com, while LOVEFiLM have it for £12.93.

There's a trailer online in Quicktime, Windows or Real Media, but hopefully it's nowhere near as good as it'll look on Blu-ray. You can also take a peak in a much poorer Flash format below:

This is a must buy for me for sure.

are we sure the specs for this are going to be the same as the american release?
The r2 DVD was missing some features from the r1 version.

Not totally sure gbrt, but we're hoping that it will. I'll keep my eyes open for you though.
