Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action film
It was back in September of 2008 that we heard there was going to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action film, and that was from the keyboard of Kevin Eastman, and yet a funny thing happened. The message disappeared, it was removed soon after posting and never heard of again, a message you can see below.
Now the news is that it's going ahead, there's no word of the involvement of Eastman, but his words are ringing true as we hear that in time for the twenty-fifth anniversary there's a live action film planned.
Peter Laird is executive producing, and that has to count for something, as well as the fact that a producer from the last animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, Galen Walker, is on board again.
Here's the Kevin Eastman comment that was quickly removed back in September 2008.
Yes, it is true. Although the CGI film did well enough to warrent a sequel, there has been much talk between Imagi and Warners to do a better "re-invention" (newest Hollywood buzzword) of the TMNT's, in a live action film-like what was done with Batman. Back to basics, back to the origin and the intro of the Shredder, etc…there have been talks, trips to Northampton to talk to Mr Laird, and discussions with the original "first" TMNT film director Steve Barron to come back and do it right-but no official word yet…will keep you posted. Best, Kevin
Well it looks like it is coming true, because at the end of the Variety write up we get the news that it does look like it'll be an origin story:
“The original dozen comics created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman are some of the best source material one could hope for...”
Those are the words of Scott Mednick, producer on the film, and that's got to have the Turtle fans happy in their half shells?
It also appears that there's going to be computer work carried out on the faces of the characters to make them much more expressive and less costume like, a big stumbling block in the previous live action film.
Well TMNT fans, has this gotten you excited? Live-action Turtles, computer generated facial expressions, one of the creators executive producing?
