Stalked: Gladiators film, I Saw What You Did, Thirteen Assassins

More remake news, and none of it really could stand on it's own. First up is remake news in a way, remake of a television programme that has me wondering just what they are going to do with it, Gladiators will be based on American Gladiators the television franchise. Oh yes.

I Saw What You Did has nothing to do with summer, or perhaps the remake will, this is harking back to the original film I Saw What You Did and I Know Who You Are! starring Joan Crawford from 1965.

Then there's news of Takashi Miike remaking Thirteen Assassins, and I'm sure that's going to be much less controversial in tone don't you think?

Takashi Miike's Thirteen Assassins will tell the story of thirteen assassins who group together for a suicide mission to kill an evil overlord in the shogun era. It's a remake of the 1963 film by Eiichi Kudo, also called Thirteen Assassins. There are rumblings from Variety that this could be a big budget remake. (Update: Can't believe no one saw me getting that story mixed up! All fixed now)

I Saw What You Did and I Know Who You Are! aka I Saw What You Did is a film from 1965 which starred Joan Crawford and was based on the novel Out of the Dark by Ursula Curtis. It follows two girls who make prank phone calls to random people as jokes, and then one day they call the wrong person, someone who won't let the prank go. Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer are set to write the film with Lussier directing according to Variety.

Now probably the strangest news, the creator of the American Gladiators franchise is working on a live action big screen version. Of course if it works there will be a ready made audience if you look at the Variety figures, having sold the show to ninety countries and it being adapted into a local format in some fourteen of them, there's a demand, or at least product knowledge, out there.

Interestingly American Gladiators was originally meant to be a film but became a television property instead. Apparently the idea is to create an action story that takes place inside this commonly known set-up, that being everyday members of the public trying to beat people chosen for their heightened abilities to stop them from winning at all costs.

How that can work I don't know.

More remakes.
