Stalked: Mike Newell, Jim Carrey, The Road
Mike Newell could be taking on The Lone Ranger.
Jim Carrey wants The Beaver.
And The Road may finally be released later this year.
Mike Newell is close to agreeing to direct The Lone Ranger. Johnny Depp is already playing Tonto, with George Clooney rumoured as a potential Lone Ranger. Empire also have some plot news. Apparently a group of Texas Rangers are ambushed and killed, all apart from one. He is then nursed back to health by Tonto, and sets out for revenge. I'm not a big enough fan to know how close to the original that is.
Looks like Jim Carrey has his eye on The Beaver. The script has been around for a while, but no one has picked it up for definite yet. It follows a man whose constant companion is a beaver puppet. Steve Carell was linked to the project before, but MTV Movies Blog say Jim Carrey is also interested. Seems Jodie Foster is also interested in directing it, which would be a departure for her.
The Road has a potential release date after hitting a delay. It was originally meant to be released late last year. But after a delay in post production it was postponed. Now Bloody Disgusting, through Jo Blo, say the date pencilled is October 16th. Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce, Michael Kenneth Williams and Kodi Smit-McPhee are starring in the film version of Cormac McCarthy's book.
