Verhoeven on crazy Surrogate

PaulVerhoeven.jpgPaul Verhoeven is so much better with his serious hat on, just look at Black Book, or was that because he was outside of Hollywood? Whatever the reason his next film is looking as interesting and suggests something more along the lines of psychological thriller.

The Surrogate is a new film which is based on the book by Kathryn Mackel (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com) which tells of a couple desperate for a baby who find that they have employed a rather insane surrogate.

Paul Verhoeven has given us some great cinema, Robocop, Total Recall, Basic Instinct and Starship Troopers, but then the terrible Showgirls and Hollow Man tainted all that and he left Hollywood to try and find his roots again. Those he found with Zwartboek aka Black Book and now he has a few interesting projects lined up once again.

Not only do we have The Surrogate, according to The Hollywood Reporter, but there's also his Jesus of Nazareth film, The Thomas Crown Affair 2, and a few other smaller films on his slate too.

I do hope we're going to see him return to Hollywood in a big way, and that he's going to deliver the goods. Perhaps The Surrogate will just be another one of them on his way to producing some of the excellent films he already has.
