Who should play Steve McQueen?
There's a new rumour for who should play Steve McQueen online, and I have to stress that it's a hugely unsubstantiated rumour, however it is a good one. It rivals the previous talk from one of the ex-wives of McQueen himself about who they would want to play Steve McQueen.
Both the questions raised something in my mind, who would I want to play Steve McQueen, or rather who would you want to?
We've known since 2007 that there was a Steve McQueen biographical film in the works, a film adapted from a biography from McQueen's first wife, Neile McQueen Toffel, called My Husband, My Friend: A Memoir (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com), and then in January of this year that Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com) was starting production too.
Although not much was known of the plans for the first biographical film of the actor and Hollywood screen legend, the second film was attempting to span his entire career from his first film appearance to his death, including all his relationships and personal life on the way. It sounded like an epic, and one that would attract a strong audience too.
However there's not been much word of the film since, and I've been desperately waiting for more, and since Barbara McQueen Brunsvold told us that she thought that Daniel Craig was the only actor around that could play her husband, I've been dying to know who would play the man. Back in 2007, before any film was announced, she said:
"I think Daniel would be the best one to play Steve. He's kind of got that swagger, the good looks - if I wasn't married I'd date him."
Since those stories not much has been heard, until now. The rumour is just that, and from the car site Examiner with no sourcing reference, but the rumour is there and carried through The Playlist. It claims that an actor is about to be signed for the second biographical film, the one based on Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel, and who is the actor they claim? Brad Pitt.
There are many similarities between the persona's of both men, considering cars, women, good looks, swagger, attitude, and so on, however behind the persona they are very different, however does that matter when we're considering that there will be acting involved? Does it really matter if there's more than a passing resemblance or not?
The article claims Brad Pitt is about to be signed for the role, and while I think Pitt is an excellent actor, I'm just wondering if Daniel Craig could easily fill the shoes of Steve McQueen, perhaps even better than Pitt could?
Who would you want to see play Steve McQueen? Is there a better choice than Craig or Pitt?
