Anthony Head on Buffy reboot
The recently announced news that a Buffy the Vampire Slayer film was in the works, had one thing missing. That was Joss Whedon, who was the brains behind the TV show.
Now one of the stars of the TV series has given his opinion of the new film. Turns out he has the same issue as me.
Late last year, there was a rumour that Joss Whedon was touting a script around for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer film. He had written the first film, and the TV series so it kind of made sense. Unfortunately that hasn't come to anything. And now Fran Rubel Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui are planning on a Buffy reboot.
As a big fan of the TV show, I'm not a fan of the idea for a new film. Especially one without Joss Whedon. Now Anthony Head, who played Giles in the TV series, has said what he thinks. The news comes from Moviehole, through Cinema Blend.
I wouldn’t want to see it, no. The Kuzuis didn’t do a great job on the movie the first time around. It was Joss’ script at the age of 19, but they changed a lot of it. They said, ‘Look, we know best and we know how to make this movie,’ and it became quite schlocky and high camp....The bottom line is if a movie was ever to be made, it should be made with Joss Whedon, whether it’s a retrospective or not. But it would be madness to do it without him. [The Kazuis] have the rights to because they have the rights to the original movie, but it should be interesting to see. It may be a bit like watching a car wreck.
I quite agree. There shouldn't be a film without Whedon. The TV series and the film are poles apart, and much better for it. This reboot, might turn into one of those films I pretend aren't happening. Are you Buffy fans coming round to the idea? Or do wish it wasn't happening?
