Creation trailer online
It does strike me as very odd that a film about Charles Darwin writing his world famous book On the Origin of Species should be called Creation, very odd indeed. However it is, it's not called Evolution as you might think, and now the trailer is here.
...and the trailer looks pretty damned interesting. Paul Bettany takes the lead as Charles Darwin, his wife is played by, his wife, Jennifer Connelly, and co-starring are names such as Jeremy Northam and Toby Jones.
The film doesn't just follow the story of Charles Darwin and his The Origin of the Species (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com), but it focuses on the personal turmoil he faced developing one of the most important works in the history of science or even literature which threatened to destroy the belief of his very religious wife, and with the added complication of each of them trying to come to terms with the loss of their daughter. A story heard in the book by Randal Keynes called Annie's Box (Annie's Box / Amazon.com).
It's an interesting story, and definitely the reflection of the current crisis between science and religion that America more than anyone is facing right now.
What I am concerned about with Creation is exactly what it ends up focusing on, and if it will drop the story of Darwin and his amazing research, or end up being about the battle between religion and science, which I think we should see, but perhaps not in a film about Charles Darwin, and perhaps not in a film titled Creation which is about the life and major work of the man who created and documented evolution.
