Das Experiment remake gains big cast

DasExperiment.jpgThe remake of Das Experiment, a superb film that recreates the idea of the Stanford Prison Experiment and takes it a lot further, is moving forward and has just gained an excellent cast list.

The original German film starred Moritz Bleibtreu and Christian Berkel, two great German actors, recreating the famous experiment from 1971 that pitched men against each other in a fake prison.

For the original Stanford Prison Experiment a group of some twenty-four men were chosen out of seventy for their lack of any psychological, medical or criminal issues and half were randomly selected to be prison guards while the other half prisoners.

Within a mere six days the experiment had to be stopped as the guards were showing signs of beyond the norm behaviour while some of the prisoners were already showing signs of psychological and physical trauma.

The film version, Das Experiment takes this a little further and imagines what would have happened should the experiment have continued, and it becomes rather shock and very compelling, particularly with the performances.

News from Variety through AITH tells us that some of the cast have already been picked, and if this is anything to go by the remake is set to be strong.

The names up are Adrien Brody, Forest Whitaker, Elijah Wood and Cam Gigandet. Paul Scheuring has written the screenplay and is set to direct, he's the man who gave us Prison Break on television, so it's his fault!

Oliver Hirschbiegel directed the German original, but this version will see Brody playing the leader of the prisoners, a similar role to that of Moritz Bleibtreu in the original, and Whitaker will play a prison guard who is quickly affected by the power and status.

Sounds a great line up already, and if it's anything like the original it'll be explosive.
