Ghostbusters 3 update
Well it's been a whole four days this time people. That's how many days since Harold Ramis was cornered about Ghostbusters 3. The next unfortunate soul is Ivan Reitman.
He does however give us an idea of what is still to happen. And what to make of any casting rumours we have heard.
Ghostbusters 3 is probably the most talked about sequel around these days. Which I guess makes it understandable, that everyone involved is constantly being asked about it. They have the patience of a saint if you ask me though. That would drive me mad.
Just the other day Harold Ramis said that the script was being written, and that only after that would we know exactly what was happening. Now Ivan Reitman given his two cents worth on where we are, to MTV. He says that it was the studio who initiated the third film, by getting a script on the go. And of those casting rumours for the third?
Absolutely no truth at all. The three actors and I and Columbia Pictures, think of us as five equal powers, each with veto power. The real truth is the project just sat there. It was just lately when Columbia decided on their own to hire some writers to come up with a story that would entice the rest of us. It was a very prescient thing to do because you can feel it’s in the zeitgeist now. The script is going to be turned in a month or so and we’ll see. All the casting and directing speculation is really just speculation.
From the sound of it, if one of the original five don't want to do it, no one will. That could get messy. The writers of the American series of The Office, are the ones writing the script. Lee Eisenberg, Gene Stupnitsky have been beavering away on it. But not quickly enough for Reitman.
They had a pitch and Harold Ramis and I met with them. I kind of liked the idea and suggested some ways that it could improve further. My biggest problem is that it’s taken them so long. They’ve been very busy with “Office.” We’ve frankly been delayed by almost a year from the moment that we met them until now.
So the real reason it's moving so slowly is that these guys are so busy. He does confirm some of the story ideas though. Mainly the new Ghostbusters, and the plan to have two women in the crew.
That was certainly in the outline they proposed. I don’t know if that’s the way the script will finally turn out. I would just take everything with a grain of salt.
Well as far as updates go, that's a pretty good one. Casting and direction haven't been discussed, mainly as there is no script yet. And they should all get their mitts on that in a month or so. I consider myself caught up. Let's hope that script is a good one.
