Kick-Ass 2 begins

Kick-Ass.jpgBefore Kick-Ass has even been punted to anyone outside of the production in anything resembling a clip or a trailer, the man behind the story is talking about the sequel already, and it's not just a passing comment or two, no, this is serious stuff, he's planning it with a view to moving the film towards production.

More than that it's not just the comments of the author of both stories, Mark Millar, it's more than that. Apparently Matthew Vaughn is in on it all and they're looking to get the film made in nothing short of two years.

Yes, it's hard to believe, especially since we haven't even heard more than a whisper from Kick-Ass, however Mark Millar is very positive on the subject, and if he's speaking for Matthew Vaughn then so is he.

Speaking through SciFi Wire and FirstShowing Millar said:

“Kick-Ass 2 is already being plotted out. We're planning it, because all the actors are quite young and we have to make it relatively quickly. So we'll definitely do that inside the next 18 to 24 months.”

That's incredible and I think has to be a record for a sequel, unless the films were being made back to back anyway. We haven't seen a teaser or anything other than a couple of publicity shots or shots grabbed on set, and they're already talking about the sequel coming out within two years?

I think this is hugely optimistic.

“Wanted made a fortune. It made a ton of money, and it was a property nobody had ever heard of. And I think Kick-Ass is going to be even bigger. Everybody who's seen bits of it were rubbing their hands together with excitement because they think they've stumbled onto something very big. So I can't complain.”

Okay, Millar doesn't think so, and presumably Vaughn doesn't either as, although he's busy in post-production and editing with Kick-Ass, it seems he wants to get involved in this sequel.

Of course why not? Vaughn is the kind of person who can get a film made as he has some serious money connections behind him, he doesn't need to get a studio on board, especially a studio who wants to wait and see what happens with a film, or wants to change a script or two.

Do you think we're seriously going to get to see a Kick-Ass 2 in development even before this one comes out? I reckon that we might just get to see it, and if there's this much buzz about the film already, can you imagine how good the film is going to be?

I believe it.
You can't escape the buzz if your into comics here in the states, whenever I go into a local shop its constantly reccomended, even though I've been a fan for awhile.
It has a very odd appeal, I belive its success has to do with the realistic style, its vigilantes in a non comic book universe, its brutally real, touching and hilarious.
But on the other hand, Wanted wasnt a success because of the comic, it barely resembles the actual concept at all, so exclusively counting on comic fan support is iffy.
I think its going to be huge.
