Little Shop of Horrors remake news
Back in April we heard of yet another remake happening, this time it was Little Shop of Horrors. We haven't heard anything since then though.
It's still on the go though, and Declan O'Brien has given an idea of what approach he is going to take.
Little Shop of Horrors was originally made in 1960, with Jack Nicholson amoung the cast. A young man working in a flower shop creates a plant which needs human flesh to feed on, he then is forced to find it food. It was first remade in 1986, starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin. Only this time it was more of a musical than a black comedy.
Declan O'Brien is the man who is remaking it now, and he has plans of his own for his version. He talked to Fangoria, through Arrow in the Head.
I’ve done a deal with him for the rights to LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, and the remake is in progress right now. I’m basically going to do it as a horror film, which is going to upset a ton of people who loved the musical—and that’s what made Roger excited. He was like, ‘You’re really going to (expletive removed) them off,’ but he liked the take—he thought it was very, very smart. We’re trying to find financing for it now.
So no songs in this one, as we suspected earlier. I'd prefer that, I think the 1986 version is the only one I've seen and I'm no musical fan. Sounds like they might be borrowing the main idea, and trying to make a decent horror film out of it.
Any Little Shop of Horrors fans out there? Does the non musical remake irritate you? Can Little Shop of Horrors work as a plain horror film?
