No Transformers 3 for Michael Bay? Updated
Michael Bay is a fairly polarising figure in the film world. He certainly has a niche in the action market, some people love his work and others critise him fairly regularly.
It sounds like they may have made their point. Michael Bay may have had enough, and says he may not be back for Transformers 3.
Michael Bay loves a good explosion, and the majority of his films contain large action sequences and a camera that never stops moving. See Bad Boys, Armageddon and Transformers as examples. His style isn't to everyone's liking though, and some critics aren't shy in vocalising that. It hasn't seemed to affect the money any of those films have made though.
Michael Bay now has Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen coming out starting tomorrow. But it might be the last Transformers he directs though. He says he has had enough of critics having a go, and wants to go and make a film minus the explosions.
It's easy to go shoot an art movie in a winery in the South of France. But people have no idea how hard it is to create something like Transformers. They (the critics) review me before they've even seen the movie. After the three and a half years I've spent making these movies, I feel like I've had enough of the Transformers world. I need to do something totally divergent, something without any explosions.
Is it easy to make an art movie in a winery? Not necessarily I think. I guess what he could mean is that before Transformers 3, he plans on doing something a little different. And it wouldn't be the first time, he had put deliberately wrong information out there. But saying he's had enough of the Transformers world does say a lot.
I'm struggling to think of what kind of film he would make though. Perhaps an art movie in a winery? What do you think he should turn his hand to? And if he doesn't do Transformers 3, should there be one, then who should?
Despite saying he'd had enough of the Transformers world, it turns out that the part where he might just want a vacation between Transformers films is what he meant. Quoted on his site, through Cinema Blend, he had this to say about any quit rumours.
Love press how they spin. Never said it - just wanted a vacation is more to the point.
So we can expect Michael Bay back for more oversized robots and explosions. After a vacation and perhaps a different kind of film.
