Rodriguez talks Predators
Robert Rodriguez has been talking about Predators, well when I say he's been talking about Predators he's actually been having a dig at "online news", apparently if it's not online its okay and online news is bad, and quashing the rumour that Arnold Schwarzenegger has been contacted to possibly return to the role of Dutch.
While some sources were claiming that Rodriguez was talking to Arnie and that he was courting him for a role in Predators, I wasn't so convinced. Apparently neither was Rodriguez.
"While this is a rumour through an insider, it's a pretty good source, but there isn't a conversation or discussion going on as yet, merely that Robert Rodriguez's people have contacted Arnold Schwarzenegger's people and asked to talk."
That's quite a way off from saying that there were conversations between the two discussing roles, this could just be an opening discussion to talk about the project and the future, who knows, one thing is that Robert Rodriguez may not be aware of a low level approach, who really knows.
"Online news is amazing, much more exciting than real life! There are so many sites saying that I'm actively pursuing Arnold! Feels like all i have to do is sit here, and let the websites do the work!
Actually, what probably happened is someone conjured that up because of my 1994 draft, that had Dutch as a main character. And then it probably just built from there.
But no, we're still writing a new script, and although I know Arnold personally and he's the coolest person on the planet, I have not contacted him about this at all at this time. As promised, I'll keep you posted on such developments since Predator is such a fan favorite.
But then again, he could very well have told someone he'd be into it. Who knows? Personally, I haven't heard anything. But it's still early in the day."
Yes, the work may have been done for you, and that's another thing that the "online press" is useful for, the manipulation by production teams to start moves like this into the audience's consciousness as well as the person that hasn't yet been officially approached. Get the audience on board to the idea and the star may well follow, or at least make the negotiations a little less painful.
"Of course that's conjecture. We're still waiting for exact word on how the story will pan out, but it's coming, and it's looking good. Let's hope the film is good enough and it attracts Arnie back to the character of Dutch. While we're at it, let's hope Dutch is bigger than a cameo."
Sceptical, but that doesn't stop us being hopeful and wondering where this could go if things were to come together.
What if they were just finding out if he'd be interested in reading it, and perhaps then there might be a cameo to work in for Arnie as Dutch? Or something a little bigger? What if they were seeing if it was worth writing a part in for Dutch? It would be insanity not to consider that in my eyes, and that's coming from a fan of the original.
