Shyamalan still wants Unbreakable 2

MNightShyamalan.jpgIn September last year M. Night Shyamalan revealed he was thinking about a sequel to Unbreakable. Nothing has come of it since then, but now the idea has reared it's head again.

Could we be seeing Samuel L Jackson and Bruce Willis back for more?

Unbreakable starred Bruce Willis as the man who discovers something incredible about himself after an accident. And Samuel L Jackson as the man who helps him realise what it is that is so special about him. A supernatural thriller which was also based in the world of comic books. M. Night Shyamalan sounded quite up for a sequel in September last year.

I genuinely just asked this question the other day — should I make Unbreakable 2? I do love the [comic book movie] genre, I just wanna make sure that I’m able to express who I am...I don’t want to get so lost in the subject that I have to neuter everything that’s me in it, so maybe Unbreakable is the comic book thing I should do — I keep coming back to that.

But since then he has been a bit busy, and currently he is in the middle of filming The Last Airbender. The subject of Unbreakable 2 came up again recently though, and it still sounds like a possibility. Asked if he was interested in a sequel he had this to say to MTV, through Comic Book Movie.

I am. I don’t know where all the parties are in the world. Sam [Jackson] is like ‘Mr. Comic Book’ now. And Bruce, I don’t know what he’s up to. I don’t know where Disney’s at in their head and what kind of movies they’re up for making. But yeah, I love that movie.

Jackson had previously said he'd be interested in a sequel. But that was before he became Nick Fury, in numerous comic book adaptations. I wonder if he would still want to go back to that role. For now though The Last Airbender is taking up all of Shyamalan's time, but after that who knows.

It does beg the question though, what would the story be?
