Coen Brothers A Serious Man trailer online
There's a trailer online for the Coen Brothers A Serious Man, and I have to admit although it's well edited, makes great use of sound and builds up the tension well to a moment where you expect the story, and the character, to explode, but it never comes.
Although I like the trailer I do feel it has a hugely unfinished feeling to it. It doesn't complete the delivery of what you'd expect and instead relies on a roll call of previous films that the directors have made.
I find that rather disappointing. The trailer for A Serious Man does build to a moment where the character is expected to explode, or the story to go somewhere, but it just doesn't and then the screen goes to black and we get a roll call of the films that the Coen Brothers have made.
While I get that there's some clever factor in there, not giving us any conclusion to what happens to the character, it isn't a strong trailer in it's own right, and that's why the people behind the trailer and/or the studio have felt the need to drop in this list to say "hey look what these guys have done before, that'll make you want to see the film", except shouldn't the trailer stand on it's own two feet?
The film is set in 1967 and tells the story of Larry Gopnik who is a professor with no real strength about him in any aspect of his life, and he sees his life unravelling before him as event after event colludes to destroy his professional and personal life. He goes to three rabbis for help, but things just seem to get worse and worse.
