Dorian Gray trailer online
The trailer for Dorian Gray has appeared online, the film about the classic Oscar Wilde story of the an who never ages after his image is captured in a magical but cursed painting.
I'm really not sure what to make of the trailer, and it looks like the people who made it don't either. There's something to get the action, romance and the period drama in all of us, but there's no real sense of the story.
What's worse is that if you don't know the story of Dorian Grey from the outset, which I just explained in the opening paragraph, this might look nothing more than a series of connected images.
What is Dorian Grey trying to tell us about in the trailer?
The film does look good though, it casts Ben Barnes as Gray, Colin Firth, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Rebecca Hall, Emilia Fox, Ben Chaplin, Fiona Shaw, Caroline Goodall, Maryam d'Abo, Michael Culkin, David Sterne and more.
It's a great line-up and the director, Oliver Parker, is the one who wrote and directed the excellent Laurence Fishburne led Othello as well as The Importance of Being Earnest and The Private Life of Samuel Pepys...and the St. Trinian's films, one released, one to come. Okay that's a mixed bag then.
I'm really not sure what to think of this now. I was looking forward to it, now I'm concerned they're going to try and make it fit too many genres to cover a wide audience.
