Full District 9 trailer online
There's a new trailer online for District 9, the film directed by Neill Blomkamp and produced by Peter Jackson that we keep hearing so much about in a very strong viral marketing campaign. Blonkamp, you'll remember, was going to deliver the Halo film along with Jackson, and when that fell through they moved on with District 9.
The new trailer is much better than the previous two teasers that we've seen on Filmstalker before (here and here) which showed more stand back, documentary type footage. This new trailer leaps into the film in full force.
District 9 is the story of an extraterrestrial race who have no other choice but to come to Earth and make a home here, alongside all the other species on the planet. We humans force them to live in slums and be controlled, held back, and treated as something less than a living creature. That is until an agent belonging to the group keeping them suppressed is exposed to the alien's biotechnology and becomes a possible saviour for them.
You can see the new trailer for District 9 over at Yahoo Movies [Flash:480p:720p:1080p], and it not only looks superb but it adds a couple of interesting aspects to the film.
It's clear that the agent who is exposed to the biotechnology turns into something akin to the alien, there's a shot of him on a hospital table with a rather strange forearm, fighting to get away. There's a later shot of something which looks like the aliens leaping through the air from the top of a truck to a building, is this what the agent becomes?
I'm not sure, I think that might just be an alien as we see later a lot of footage of a loader like robot from Alien and it looks like the agent is inside it controlling it. Here's a shot of it turning right to the camera.
It's clear that the agent turns against the MNU, the group responsible for monitoring and controlling the aliens, and fights to save them, see the shot where the exo-skeleton type robot stops a human firing a rocket towards the alien ship.
I'm not entirely sure if this gives us anything new, but there are definitely glimpses galore of the new film, the story, and the aliens. What this trailer did was actually surprise me. I thought that the film might be carrying a lower budget than we would have expected, but this trailer turns that thought on its head.
Have a look for yourself, this looks superb.
