Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief trailer online
A teaser trailer for Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief has arrived online and I have to say it looks superbly cool. There's not a lot to it, but there's sweeping camera moves, great tracking shots, superb lighting, and it really builds up a sense of scale and impending greatness.
Unlike so many trailers there's also a decent pay off at the end too. The film is directed by Chris Columbus and features a great cast list with names such as Rosario Dawson, Persephone, Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Catherine Keener, Kevin McKidd, Steve Coogan and Joe Pantoliano.
The film tells the story of a young boy who discovers he's the descendant of a Greek god and gets pulled into an ongoing battle between them, trying to end it once and for all.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is based on a series of books from Rick Riordan (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com) which you can imagine if Chris Columbus delivers something strong will mark the start of a healthy franchise, and looking at this admittedly short teaser trailer, you'll be thinking that it's going to do just that.
Comparisons are starting to be made with Harry Potter already, although personally I hate doing that kind of thing especially when there are so few comparisons, however there are some notable ones.
Percy Jackson is a series of novels aimed at a younger reader that are being adapted for the cinema with a big budget and strong cast with the very intent of bringing the fan base to the cinema and building a much bigger audience there too. I think this teaser says that it could well work.
