The Green Lantern chooses safe option

RyanReynolds.jpgRyan Reynolds has been named as the actor to play The Green Lantern. The actor who has played two superhero types and has been talked about with reference to a few others in the past few years has landed the role, and I'm sure it won't be his last.

He certainly has the rugged looks and the athletic body for the role of a superhero, but I can't help thinking we missed a trick with Bradley Cooper.

I don't think for a second that Justin Timberlake was going to make the grade, sorry Justin, no offence intended but in that choice of three we talked about it just didn't feel that you were the same type to go head to head with Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds. I do think that he was in there to add a choice of something extra, carrying the populist vote and a bit more like the every man character.

Yet that's what I thought Bradley Cooper could bring. I remember watching him in Alias and you really did believe that he was a normal guy caught up in events that he couldn't control and didn't understand, a quality I thought would have been good for quite a bit of the introduction of The Green Lantern.

Now though, Variety through Latino Review is reporting that Ryan Reynolds is the one to pick up the green ring for Warner Bros. and interestingly enough there's not a mention of Justin Timberlake in the article. They say the running was between Reynolds, Cooper and Jared Leto, and that was someone I thought was out of the running some time ago.

Confused? I am. Now though it doesn't really matter. The man who is playing Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and his own spin-off film Deadpool, and who played one of the Blade: Trinity team, will now be playing The Green Lantern too. That's not going to be confusing is it?

Of course the exciting part of all this is that Martin Campbell is directing, and that could produce something a little different.
