Whip It! trailer online

DrewBarrymore.jpgWhip It! is the film from Drew Barrymore, her directorial début no less, and tells the story of a girl who doesn't really know what to do with her life but knows that she doesn't fit in with her mother's ideals, so when she discovers something she loves she goes after it with a passion, and that's roller derby,

The film stars Ellen Page, Juliette Lewis, Zoë Bell, Kristen Wiig, Drew Barrymore, Marcia Gay Harden and Eve Jeffers and the trailer is online right here.

If we're being honest about this then it's pretty clear that the film is a coming of age story where the kid rebels against their parents wishes, lies about school, and does their own thing. While the controlling mother hates it, the father backs what her child loves, and eventually they'll all come round to it and watch her final performance with love.

Of course we'll have to throw some drama in there, her rise through the ranks of nothing to something, perhaps the team's rise in the league, and maybe a few serious accidents too.

However standard some of that might be, Whip It! is still based on a roller derby, and since when have we seen anything like that in current cinema? That must have taken a pitch and a half to get it made, but made it has been and the trailer looks a lot of fun, especially with that cast list.

I wonder if Drew Barrymore is just about to blow us away with her directorial debut?
