World War Z loses director?
Has Marc Forster left the production of World War Z? Well rumour seems to have it that he has and that during Comic-Con Paramount Pictures revealed that they're looking for another director.
This coincides nicely with the news that World War Z was heading for a rewrite after J. Michael Straczynski's script was taken and given to Matthew Michael Carnahan. Could it be connected or is this just another case of scheduling conflicts?
So far there's no word, all that's happened is that somehow, someone revealed the news at Comic-Con, so you are warned that this is a huge rumour, however it feels like it could be the case.
You can imagine that if the script is heading for a major rewrite then there's going to be an added delay and so that could mean there are scheduling conflicts for Marc Forster if he has something lined up for after when the film was planned to be shot.
Likewise, with a new big name writer on the World War Z script it could mean all change for the creatives behind the project, not just the writer. It's not that we haven't seen this thing before.
Of course, as I said, there's nothing at the moment to back this up. Bloody Disgusting are saying that Paramount are looking for a new director, the news came from Comic-Con, but they have no sources named, not even an “insider”. The story comes through AITH.
Rumour it most definitely is, but it would fit with either scenario above. Although the loss of J. Michael Straczynski from the project is a sad thing, by no means is it bad news that Matthew Michael Carnahan is on the project, and likewise, it's not a bad thing that Forster is off it either. After all he recently gave us Quantum of Solace (Filmstalker review).
