Mission: Impossible IV happening

TomCruise.jpgYes, it really is now officially happening, Mission: Impossible IV is off the ground and running, or rather it's under starters orders and will be running probably next week, and I think that's a superb piece of news because the Mission: Impossible series is excellent, especially when compared to the drivel of shallow action pieces we're being spoon fed these days.

The production has hired some more writers to help out with the project, and they are coming from the J.J. Abrams writing stable of the Alias television series, a cracking series filled with some excellent writing.

Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are the two assigned to write the script, the latest to make the move across from one of J.J. Abrams television series to film for Bad Robot.

We received official confirmation from J.J. Abrams that he was set to direct back in June which followed on from the rumours that M:I:IV was underway and that Abrams was directing, oh and that Tom Cruise was returning too.

So far, and there's still no confirmation in this latest Variety article, Cruise and Abrams are on board to produce only, but we know that Cruise would star, I can't really see the franchise being handed over to anyone unless he was physically incapable. However the idea of Abrams directing might be a little further from reality. Sure he's producing, but he produces a lot he doesn't direct, will he end up doing it? I actually think he will.

What's more is that the praise that Abrams lays on the two writers seems to position them perfectly for this film:

"I've been looking forward to working with Josh and Andre again for years…Their sense of balance between character and action is wonderful, which I know is hugely important to Tom as well. We're off to an exciting start, so, as usual, fingers crossed."

Now that does sound good praise indeed. Previously they were writers on Alias, have been writing for television, and also have the Dirty Dozen remake on their work load.

I'm on board aren't you? Bring on the fourth.

I like this series. MI:2 stands out as a bit of a sore thumb, but is worthy entertaintment. Enjoyed the last 'mission'. I'm on board for the fourth.
