Vaughn for Superman?
Matthew Vaughn has been talking up what he'd like to do next, and it seems he wants to follow the way he's been going and where a few other directors have leapt with great success, the superhero film.
Of course Kick-Ass is taking him there already, but it's not quite the big traditional superhero that he's talking about doing, and adding his name to the growing list of people who'd like to restart the biggest of them all.
There's one big rule about marketing these days, exploit the popular internet channels, if you don't do that then you're missing out, and many in the film business know that they really need to exploit the internet news and rumour base out there and plant the idea that'll get you the job, eventually, maybe.
Matthew Vaughn knows this and has gone out to do just that saying that he'd love to make The Avengers and reinvent Superman, and that he was once keen to do Iron Man (Filmstalker review). Through MTV and ComicBookMovie.
”I was desperate to do 'Iron Man' about 8 years ago, and everyone was like, 'Iron Man, no one will go watch that.'...Cut to now, and it's a huge hit...
...I grew up watching superhero films, so I want to make superhero films”
Well he's obviously keen to do them and looking at what he's done to date you would be forgiven for thinking he's been lining it up that way.
I think he's a director that's a little out of the obvious running, and brings plenty of style and a real spark and difference to his films that could really make Superman feel like something different.
However, as the feature on the site shows, I think there's a big time out for the big superheroes and the concentration is going to be on the smaller and lesser known heroes, and I think that's a good place to be, especially for Vaughn.
