A-Team's Murdoch lined up?
For some reason I just can't stay away from the rumours of the A-Team film, it's been special for me, being the first story I wrote online some five years ago and am still writing about today. Perhaps it's going to be my Doomsday clock, when the film gets made, Filmstalker ends! Let's hope not. The rumour today though is that “Howling Mad” Murdoch has a possible player, and it's a damned surprising one.
Yes it's an unconfirmed rumour, but if you look at the choice it's almost instantly likeable, especially if you've just seen District 9. Do you have the idea yet?
According to the rumour it's none other than newly discovered Sharlto Copley, the man who played the lead and incredibly average yet believable reluctant hero in District 9, a Filmstalker review is due tomorrow for that film, and it's a good one.
It struck me as soon as I read the rumour from BackFilm through Cinema Blend, that the guy is almost perfect. Looking at his character's opening fumbling, awkward scenes in front of the camera in District 9, and later his nervous performance as Wikus for the documentary camera as he works through the alien camp, are perfect for Mad Murdoch, or so I think at least.
Although CB point out that for the most part Wikus is a pretty cowardly character, for me there's some serious connections with Murdoch, and you just have to look at the subtleties of the performance during that first half of the film. Nervous, awkward, out of place, a little manic, humorous and ultimately a bit of an action man. Yes, I think he can really play this part.
However we have to wonder if the rumour is just that, a complete rumour that is perhaps a manoeuvring rumour from the actor's camp, or it could be a rumour leaked from the production who are actually looking into the actor appearing in the role.
Whichever it is, I think it's an inspired and very timely piece of casting, I say go for it, and the cast is firming up nicely so far. Liam Neeson as Hannibal, Bradley Cooper as Face, and possibly Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, the UFC fighter, as B.A. Baracus. Joe Carnahan's The A-Team is actually looking rather interesting.
