Mamma Mia 2?

AmandaSeyfried.jpgI have to say that this is a huge rumour, and as we've heard recently, even rumours from stars involved in the film can be lies and rumours. However it's pretty inevitable that there's going to sequel to Mamma Mia, it made enough money didn't it?

Amanda Seyfried says that there's actual discussion about a sequel and she would star in the film, as long as it featured Benny and Bjorn and the music of Abba.

She's been asked this time and time again but has been quick to say that she doesn't know anything about a sequel, except this time she had something different to say.

Speaking through BBC she said:

”I've been talking to some insiders and it's not something that they haven't been working on. I don't actually know anything other than that...

...I know it's still going to be Abba music, because what else would it be. Come on, I wouldn't do Mamma Mia 2 without Benny and Bjorn.”

She also says that Meryl Streep is keen to return too:

”I will do it. And I know Meryl's game as well, so bring it on. It will be so cool.”

Well I don't know exactly what it means when Amanda Seyfried says that she's been talking to some insiders, usually that term is used by people outside of the business to talk to those inside, but I'm not sure what that means here, after all isn't she inside?

There's another thing to consider here, and I think it's been mirrored in the Phantom of the Opera sequel. Mamma Mia is originally a stage show, and a hugely successful one at that, which went on to become a film. I believe it was more successful as a stage show, and the success of the film release was built on that stage show, so wouldn't they follow the Phantom of the Opera way and make the sequel to the stage show first?

I know there's a huge desire to make a new film and cash in on the success of the first, but wouldn't the better way to go be to create the stage show, build the hype around the film, and then follow on that with a film version? I can certainly see that.
