Ramones biographical film
I had thought that I'd written about this ages ago, but there's news of a biographical film of The Ramones in the planning stages, based on the upcoming book I Slept with Joey Ramone: A Family Memoir by Joey Ramone's brother Mickey Leigh and a writer about punk music and a Ramones writer Legs McNeil (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com).
The book focuses on the life of Joey Ramone, and the film promises to feature a good number of the group's music, and it's been struggling along, until now.
Fox Searchlight is looking to invest in the production and beef up the film somewhat, and that's got to be a good thing, not only for this film but for many more potential musical biographical films.
Joey Ramone, otherwise known as Jeffrey Hyman, was the lead singer of the Ramones, the punk band that influenced so many others in music, even bands like U2, with songs such as I Wanna Be Sedated and Blitzkrieg Bop.
However the deal for the film has a long way to go yet, and the rights to the story and music are complicated and will need a lot more work before it becomes a reality. Yahoo News carry the story
It's going to be a difficult film to bring to life, but I also think it will become a difficult story to bring from the novel to the big screen too, and not a story that they can consider toning down, after all there was a lot of Rock and Roll in the music and in the lifestyle.
Is this a film you could see coming to the big screen, and is it one of the musical biographies that you want to see, out of all the bands and great musicians that they could bring to the cinema screen, why this one?
