Schwarzenegger changes roles on Stallone

Stallone-Arnie-Willis.jpgWhat's interesting about the news of the scene in Sylvester Stallone's film The Expendables being shot with him starring next to Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger is that Schwarzenegger isn't playing himself. In the first announcement of the role it was said that he would be playing the role of Governor of California, his real life job, but now we hear that the scene has been shot and it's far from that.

More than that the scene that they have together is described as pivotal to the whole film, so it's really setting things up.

Originally we heard from Sylvester Stallone himself that Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to be playing none other than Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Expendables, but now that's changed.

The blog from a publicist on the film set tells us that something different happened. Here's the important excerpt from the blog through MTV:

"the whole crew was mesmerized as we watched the three of them play off of each other in a pivotal scene that sets up the whole movie. And while I can't/don't want to give too much away I can tell you that Arnold's character is Trench and Bruce is Church, the scene was shot in an empty church without extras and minimal set dec and it has tension and humor...

...Sly was in top form as a director today and was in total command. Bruce and Arnold were consummate professionals at all times - we got through the scene quickly without compromise. In 6 hours we did wide shots, close-ups, turned around…the whole nine yards…pretty impressive."

So Schwarzenegger is actually playing a character in the film and acting, not just delivering himself for the film, and that's a good sign. I wonder if he really is gearing up to return as the rumours have suggested?

The saddest thing about the appearance on screen from all three is that it is so short and it isn't the complete film that fans had hoped for, but still, it's a start. It could still happen couldn't it? Couldn't it?
