A Single Man trailer online

ColinFirth.jpgColin Firth is a superb actor who is far too often labelled as Mr Darcy and other such costumed and comic roles, and yet if you see something like Trauma (Filmstalker review) you'll see just how good he is when he's playing a complex character who isn't all laid out in a single sentance.

In A Single Man he's back to playing a complex character, it tells the story of an English professor who's partner has just died suddenly and he tries to pick himself up and just move on with his normal life.

The film is an adaptation of the Christopher Isherwood novel (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com) by Tom Ford, who also directs, and stars Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode, and Nicholas Hoult.

I saw Colin Firth talking recently on television about the role in A Single Man, but to be honest all we were treated to was a return to the Mr Darcy role and questions, something which I'd rather not have heard about so we didn't get much about the actual story.

However looking at some of the quotes on the trailer it does seem that some major reviewers think that this is an incredible role and performance for the character as well as for Julianne Moore.

I do hope that Firth gets noticed for the role, he is a superb actor and I would dearly love to see him playing more complex and reality based characters and far less of the comedy roles he's picking up.

For all the praise, the trailer for A Single Man doesn't give that much away. You can see it over at Apple Trailers who have it in high definition along with this blurb:

Set in Los Angeles in 1962, at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, it is the story of a British college professor who is struggling to find meaning to his life after the death of his long time partner. The story is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life.
