Let Me In additional casting
While Let Me In, the remake of the superb Let The Right One In (Filmstalker review), heads to start filming, there's additional news that the cast has received three new names for the film.
Now the names aren't huge, apart from one instantly recognisable from all manner of television and film, but the cast does bear a strong parallel to the original film.
Meanwhile there's still the concern that unless this film has something much more to offer than the original then it's just going to be another Quarantine, a remake to get rid of the subtitles.
Saying that, I have hope that Matt Reeves, the director of Cloverfield (Filmstalker review), isn't one for that, and if that first film showed us anything, it showed us that he likes to do things a little differently from time to time.
There's something that just doesn't sit right with me on the idea it would be a straight remake for Reeves, and maybe that's me just being hopeful, but this version really has to offer something the original didn't, mind you that might not stop it making the money at the box office!
Already we have Kodi Smit-McPhee playing the young boy Owen, Chloe Moretz playing the strange and mysterious girl Abby and Richard Jenkins playing Abby's guardian. Now, with the announcement of filming commencing through Coming Soon, we hear that Elias Koteas will play a policeman, Cara Buono is Owen's mother and Sasha Barrese will play Virginia.
While I don't really know Buono, who appeared in The Sopranos, or Barrese, who was in The Hangover, they both play roles in the new version that we might recognise from the original. The casting of Koteas is good news though, he's always good wherever he turns up, television or film, and looks like he'll have a good strong role here too.
I'm still holding out hope for the remake, it's got a good cast and the promise is that it won't be a straight remake, let's see how that promise holds out shall we?
