Spider-Man 4 has two villains?

RomolaGarai.jpgTo be fair the rumours for Spider-Man 4 have been going crazy, and more often than not they've been wrong. However it really is getting close to production and there really could be casting going on now - previous rumours were coming out without even a director on the project to decide - and the latest rumour is that there are going to be two villains, one male and one female.

To be fair the female villain sounds like she's less of a villain in the piece and more of a female counterpart and character development sub-plot for Spider-Man and Peter Parker, and that there will be a bigger, main villain to tackle, but as long as it doesn't go over the two we won't have to worry about another repeat of the third film.

The current rumour is that actresses are auditioning for the role of Black Cat in Spider-Man 4, as well as there being a lead male villain. Black Cat, as many of you will know, is a cat burglar who is also a love interest character for Peter Parker/Spider-Man and also more of an anti-hero than a true villain, and that would be where the unknown male villain comes in, to take up the slack and lead the bad guy side of the film.

Both Coming Soon and /Film have the exact same story source from their readers, an article in the Observer that tells us that Romola Garai has tried out for the role, and suggest, or in one case state it's true, that she's tried for the role of Black Cat.

"'Love is at the root of everything good that has ever happened and will happen.' This phrase swam into focus as I moved up the escalator at Oxford Circus tube on Tuesday morning on my way to put myself 'on tape' for a part in Spider-Man 4."

Okay, well, possibly. That's the starting point of the rumour that really comes from, but there is no mention of which role she's playing, the guesswork there is that she's playing Black Cat. So as usual, take this with a pinch of salt, all we really have from the source article, which she wrote herself, is that she has auditioned for a role in Spider-Man 4.

Let's also just put that comment into more context too, the phrase:

'Love is at the root of everything good that has ever happened and will happen.'

Isn't in connection to her casting, it's in connection to an advert she saw on screen:

"The phrase appears on an advert for a 'wireless device'"

Ah, okay, so scratch that in relation to the comment about auditioning for Spider-Man 4. So all we know then is that she's done a video audition for a role in the film.

Black Cat rumours have been around for a while now, although it might seem a likely guess, it's still just that for the moment.

Another rumour circled earlier about Rachel McAdams auditioning, and again that was apparently for the role of Black Cat. We shall see.

It would be an interesting way to take the character of Peter Parker/Spider-Man forward, with a new love interest on the side who is also on the opposite side to his moralistic view, but I'm still more interested in who the real main villain is to be.

I love Romola Garai! She was excellent in the plays I have seen her in and as Emma recently adapted by the BBC. You can't pronounce her name Richard? ;)

Oh wow, I had written a response to this before, must not have hit enter!

I can pronounce her name, although I don't know if it's right! I've seen her in some television work and she seemed good, but I don't know, there's been so much speculation about this film and the Black Cat rumour has been going for a very long time too.
