Stephen King has been talking at another book signing session, and probably surprised at the fact his last one got so much press - I mentioned it regarding a possible Under the Dome mini-series - he's been talking again about a possible sequel to his book The Shining.

Now this isn't traditional sequel, not by any means, after all this is Stephen King we're talking about, his sequel Black House to The Talisman was far from the sequel that you would expect, and maybe that's what we're going to be looking at with The Shining?

However one thing is very clear, it will focus on a much older Danny. After all there wasn't much else to go on after the end of that film. Mind you, will it involve The Overlook Hotel, or will it just be about Danny and his powers? That's where I think the non-sequel aspect might come in, and Stephen King hints at this too.

"Danny is now 40 years old and living in upstate New York, where he works as the equivalent of an orderly at a hospice for the terminally ill. Danny's real job is to visit with patients who are just about to pass on to the other side, and to help them make that journey with the aid of his mysterious powers. Danny also has a sideline in betting on the horses, a trick he learned from his buddy Dick Hallorann."

Now to be honest this sounds as much of a sequel as Black House. There are connections in many aspects of the story, but it's not a "this happened next" tale. With AITH reporting that he said a working title of the book is Doctor Sleep, I think we're looking at a film that follows a man with very special abilities, oh and he was once involved in a terrible incident when he was younger, but that just made him who he is today.

That could be a much more acceptable sequel than trying to revist the Overlook Hotel and everything that went with it.

Will it make a film to rival that of The Shining? I very much doubt it. The best Stephen King stories can get these days are mini-series, and that's if they make it through production. They're just too big in scope to do anything else, and King surely wouldn't want them all converted to the target audience of the Twilfs.

Of course we also have to bear in mind that this might all be speculation, I mean he's already talked about another Dark Tower book that would slot right in the middle of all the current ones, could he just be speculating about his ideas and we're leaping on them too early?
