Underworld 4 gets Shield writer
This could be huge news for the fourth in the Underworld series as word comes out that the a writer of The Shield, John Hlavin, is set to write the script for Underworld 4.
Although that spells good news for the series, let's put this in context, there's no director and no lead actress, but there is an idea of where the film would be placed in regards the time-line of the others.
Len Wiseman, who directed the first two Underworld films is producing along with Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Richard Wright, all producers from original films, according to Heat Vision through ShockTillYouDrop.
Hlavin has been talking about the fourth film, although he's clear that he can't give away the plot.
"I can tell you it's not a prequel...It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements."
Well I have to say these days I'm pretty impervious to comments about how a film is going to excite old and new fans alike, nothing against John Hlavin or this production, but it's something we hear every time there's a change of talent on a film franchise.
At first, when I read the writing credits of Hlavin and the fact that he's written The Shield, I was hugely excited. That meant a lot for Underworld 4, it meant that we're going to see a rich and character based story. Well, perhaps, perhaps not. Hlavin has only written two episodes of The Shield in the whole seven series.
We'll have to wait and see how this turns out and how the script is, who the director is, and who will take the lead. For news so far is that neither Kate Beckinsale nor Rhona Mitra have signed up as yet, probably Mitra is waiting to see what the script is like, but I really don't expect Beckinsale to return, do you?
