300 prequel details
Frank Miller has announced details of his prequel to 300 (Filmstalker review), he has a plot worked out, and it's set some ten years before the setting of 300. That does mean there could be a place for Gerard Butler in the prequel, or at least his character.
However, be warned, this is far from being a film, and there's not even a film being considered concretely from anyone but Frank Miller himself, and no offence, but he's not got a great track record with films at the moment has he?
Frank Miller has been talking about his prequel to 300, currently only being considered in comic book format, and he's just worked out the plot for it.
According to the man himself through the L.A. Times, SuperheroHype and ComicBookMovie, Zack Snyder has called it Xerxes, you'll remember that character from the film, the tall, golden, head of the Persian army. He was played by Rodrigo Santoro and a bunch of effects to make him look bigger, meaner and sound deeper.
He also revealed a little about the story:
"It's the battle of Marathon through my lens...I've finished the plot and I'm getting started on the artwork."
He does say that Zack Snyder has expressed interest in the story as a film, but that's a long, long way off, after all Miller hasn't even started drawing the comic. Mind you, when it's done, Snyder could be on board. However by then, is it too late?
I mean 300 (Filmstalker review) and it's new style was sometime in the past and by the time this story is ready to go are we going to be looking at the same kind of film, or is Snyder going to have to look at it all again and come up with something very different from 300?
I actually think the latter, and that's going to distance itself from the original. Perhaps not such a problem since this sounds like the story will be more on the side of the Persian's, and it might work well having a different feel to 300.
However I still don't know if it's just going to be too much time since the original. What do you think? Could Zack Snyder really be interested?
